Birth Story
February 4th
*Below is the story and experiences of the day more for my Journal and Memory, since one day I hope to print the Blog into a memory book
**** I don't know why it is but I always Love to read people's Birth Story's.
So here it is below if anyone cares to know..
4:45 am - woke up and got my bags together to head to the Hospital. I was hoping to go into strong labor on my own, but nothing too intense was happening, contractions are about 5 minutes apart when I got going this morning. I am grateful my water didn't break at home, since my Doctor said that could be a scary situation, since Baby Boy is still so high up and hasn't dropped. His chances of clamping down on the umbilical cord were really high if my water did break. And that is not a situation I want to have happen. I need my baby to arrive safe and healthy.
6:00 am - we had been admitted and I was settled into my room, and the I.V. Blood draws, Monitors were being hooked up. I was contracting every 5 minutes. My Doctor and Nurse think this is going to be a very quick labor and delivery, since I have been having really strong, consistent contractions for the past week. I am hopeful, but don't get too excited, since that is what everyone thought would happen with Kaedyn and it ended up being a 20 hour labor process with 4 hours of hard pushing to get her here safely.
7:00 am - I was 3cm dilated and they started the Pitocin drip
8:15 am - Dr. came by still 3 cm dilated, kept the pitocin going
10:30 - am still 3 cm dilated, increased pitocin
12:15 - My water broke, yucky that was a weird feeling. I was about 3 1/2 cm dilated.
Baby Boy is still floating pretty high up, hopefully you will drop soon.
12:30 - Baby Boy's heart-rate had been around 140 -150 bpm, but once my water broke it kept dropping really low to like 60 bpm with every contraction. So they kept having me change positions, to see what would help his heart rate... Because of his heart-rate I could no longer get out of bed or stand, because they were afraid he would drop to quickly and then clamp down on his umbilical cord.
1:45 pm - Increased Pitocin drip, his heart rate was doing much better.
3:45 pm - 4 1/2 cm dilated (are you kidding me)!!!
By this time I start to cry because I am frustrated because I feel like I am hardly progressing. I am in pain because I have now been laboring at the Hospital with extremely strong contractions for the past 10 hours. So much for a quick delivery like everyone thought.
5:00 pm - Contractions by this time are finally hurting so bad, I can't find a comfortable position, I am willing to try any position, but my tailbone is causing so much pain ( I broke it delivering Kaedyn and it still hasn't healed correctly.). By this point, I feel so confused what's a Mama to do? There is no position that is even tolerable at this stage of labor, except maybe if I were able to stand on my head, to give my tailbone a rest. So I finally decide to bring in the Anesthesiologist, lets fix this situation and get me out of pain, since my Doctor feels that because of the break in my tailbone, my body will not physically allow to push this little baby out with out pain medication.
5:30 pm - The epidural process begins, wow what an amazing feeling to get an epidural and it actually work the way it's supposed too. (With Kaedyn my epidural didn't work). Anyways after sometime, I am finally feeling a lot more comfortable. (And my Doctor mentioned the "Botox Scowl" I was making finally went away, so he knew I was feeling better.
6:00 pm - Yeah!!! I am finally dilated 7 cm
6:05 - Brent decided to leave me and go get something to eat. And of course within minutes of him leaving things got really scary.
Baby Boy's heart rate starts dropping really low again with every contraction and has a hard time going back up. My blood pressure keeps going really low, I am feeling dizzy and sick. Oh this was such a scary time. So now that have to insert an internal fetal monitor for baby, and then something else to monitor my uterus. And then they did an amnioinfusion which is where they had to insert saline solution into my uterus to help take any pressure off of baby and to help keep him from clamping down on his cord, which is what was causing his heart rate decelerations.
When Brent finally comes back from getting food, he was freaked out, he walks back into a room full of people there was like 8 nurses and my Doctor, where everyone was working together to help our baby be born safely.
6:15 pm - I was almost fully dilated, but at this point it didn't matter I had to start pushing, because my little boy needed to be delivered "Now".
6:20 pm - I started pushing with every contraction. The whole time they had to keep me on oxygen, because his little heart-rate kept dropping so low. If I couldn't deliver him soon, I was on my was for a C-section. After about 40 minutes of pushing our little boy was finally being born, what a relief or so I thought. His head came out and the cord was wrapped several times so tight around his neck. It was so scary because I actually saw his tiny head and the cord wrapped so tight around him. Because the cord was wrapped so tightly the Doctor could even get his fingers underneath it to unwrap it. And with cord being shorter too, he couldn't pull Baby out anymore either. Finally he managed to cut the cord while it was wrapped around his little neck.. Whew finally he was out and okay... We definitely had Angels watching over me and our little baby. Thank goodness we were in the right hospital, with the right Doctor for this birth.
